Tobias Barker

Chief Medical Officer

A board-certified physician of 15+ years, Tobias Barker, MD works as a liaison between doctors and healthcare executives in addition to actively practicing medicine, a commitment he’s held throughout his administrative career. Within his role as Chief Medical Officer at Everside Health, he is responsible for hiring, evaluating and training new providers so that patients receive the highest quality care.

Dr. Barker brings to Everside Health a wealth of knowledge and experience with overseeing strategic, operational and business functions for healthcare. Prior to joining Everside Health, he served as Vice President, Medical Operations and Chief Medical Officer at CVS Health, one of the largest healthcare providers in the country with six million patients cared for annually. Dr. Barker was a driving force within CVS to shift the business focus from acute injuries and illnesses to a patient-centered model focused on primary care. He also led the company’s initiatives in the virtual care space, which now provides telemedicine capabilities nationwide. During his years at MinuteClinic, he was responsible for developing partnerships and collaborations with outside healthcare organizations to jointly manage chronic care patients including a first-of-its-kind partnership between the Department of Veteran Affairs and CVS to provide better access to primary care for veterans. In addition, he was accountable for over 300 primary care doctors and roughly 3,000 nurses and physician assistants working in 1,100 clinics within 34 states. 

Early in his career, Dr. Barker worked with Partners Health, traveling abroad to learn from and share best practices across different countries and cultures, including work in Kazakhstan, India, and the United Arab Emirates. From 2008 to 2010, he served as the Director of Physician and Nursing Education for the Harvard Medical School Dubai Center, the world’s largest training center for physicians and nurses, located in the UAE.

Board-certified in Emergency Medicine, Dr. Barker earned his medical degree from the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. He received the prestigious Howard Hughes research scholarship while at UCLA and lived at the NIH for more than a year, advancing the field of HIV research. After practicing for several years, he completed a Master’s degree in Healthcare Management from the Harvard School of Public Health.

A fun fact, Dr. Barker once lived in an ashram for a month during which time no speaking was allowed for 28 days. He grew up in the Midwest and enjoys hiking, travel, biking and time with his wife and three children, ages 11, 9 and 7.
