HITRUST is an organization that sets rigorous safeguarding standards for electronic medical records, personal health information, and other sensitive data. In order to receive certification, a healthcare company must show that their information technology systems meet these standards, demonstrating the utmost commitment to the data security and privacy of patient data.

While nearly all healthcare companies must comply with HIPAA security standards, which is a crucial baseline for protecting patient health information, HITRUST raises the bar even further.
