James Livingston, PhD

James Livingston, Ph.D., is a licensed psychologist with years of experience treating patients in a wide range of settings and circumstances. In his private clinical practice, Dr. Livingston has provided cognitive and personality assessment for children, adolescents, and adults as well as short- and long-term psychotherapy for all ages, including couples and families. Most recently, Dr. Livingston served as a clinical psychologist for the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, providing psychodiagnosis and psychotherapy to inmates. Earlier in his career, Dr. Livingston served as an Associate Professor of Psychology at Pacific Graduate School of Psychology (now Palo Alto University) and adjunct faculty at Stanford University Medical School, UC Berkley Extension and California School of Professional Psychology. He also served as a senior clinical supervisor at a nonprofit counseling center serving low-income populations, and he has worked extensively with refugees and asylum seekers, helping them overcome the effects of physical and psychological trauma. Dr. Livingston joined the Altais Powered by Everside Health team to provide health psychology services for his community, and he is excited to be a part of establishing a clinic that empowers patients to achieve their health goals. Over the years, he has trained hundreds of psychologists, teaching them to deeply listen, follow where their patients lead them, and go at their patient's pace. This is the way that Dr. Livingston continues to work with his patients today. When he's not helping patients, Dr. Livingston enjoys spending time at home with his wife and their two rescue dogs and reading mystery and science fiction novels.
