Health Coaching Helps Quan Manage His Diabetes Better

November 22nd, 2021 | 1 min. read

By Marathon Health

My blood sugar would sometimes surge. I knew my diabetes wasn’t under control.

Fortunately, I have access to the ECSD Center for Health and Wellness through my Marathon Health benefits with Escambia County School District, so I scheduled an appointment and saw Esther Kim, a licensed practical nurse and health coach, and Dana Koger, a registered nurse and health coach.

Esther and Dana helped me come up with a plan to control my diabetes. They encouraged me to take my prescribed diabetes medications, start exercising and to eat healthier foods with fewer carbohydrates, less fat and sugar.

I started taking my medicine each day, exercising regularly and now I eat small meals every four to five hours with lots of healthy food and vegetables.

Today, my A1C is regulated, and my health has improved. I can do things that I enjoy, like taking walks with my wife, watering the plants in my yard and spending time with my nieces. I go to work in a good mood.

I would definitely recommend the Marathon Health program to my colleagues. The wellness check-up provided useful information about my health, and taking their recommendations has improved both my health and my family members’ health. I also registered for a Marathon Health program organized especially for diabetes patients, and I think it’s going to provide me with a lot of useful information about how to live with diabetes. — Member Quan Bui
